VTel’s Vermont Foodbank Food Drive Benefits Vermonters in Need
Wednesday, 19 October 2011 12:32

VTel employees collected monetary and food donations for the Vermont Foodbank totaling 6,300 meals

VTel employees completed a two week food drive to benefit the Vermont Foodbank. The initiative resulted in monetary and food donations in the equivalent of more than 6,300 meals for Vermont families in need.

“After Tropical Storm Irene, we were very humbled by the resilience of the communities we serve,” said Sharon Combes-Farr, Director of Marketing, Vermont Telephone Company. “The food drive was a meaningful way to tap into that community spirit to help families still in need.”

In addition to coordinating the food drive directly with the Vermont Foodbank and collecting donations at the company’s Springfield office, VTel worked with several local festivals to collect donations.

“We especially want to thank Killington Mountain Resorts, the Town of Chester, the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Town of Belmont for helping us to publicize the food drive and for allowing us to collect donations at their October harvest fairs and festivals,” said VTel’s Sharon Combes-Farr.

VTel customers and others attending those events were very generous in their donations to the Vermont Foodbank, as were employees at Black River Produce in Springfield, who made a large in kind food donation to the effort.

“We are grateful to VTel and those who supported their harvest food and fund drives around the state,” said John Sayles, Vermont Foodbank CEO.  “Their hard work and dedication to helping their community during a time of great need generated 6,300 meals for Vermonters in need of food help!”
