Supporting Vermont Seniors 60 Years and Older To Live Independently In Their Communities.

The Council on Aging for Southeastern Vermont, Inc. is one of five Area Agencies on Aging in Vermont. The five AAA's work together to provide a consistent package of services statewide. This means that an elder or their families may expect similar elder services, including Advocacy, in Windsor or Windham Counties, or elsewhere in Vermont.

COASEV Grant to Help Seniors Avoid Nursing Home Placement

COASEV is seeking elders and their families to participate in a nursing home diversion program that will avoid or prevent nursing home placement. To participate, an elder (60 and older) must be clinically eligible to enter a nursing home but choose not to be in a nursing home. This means that they need lots of daily assistance with basic needs like toileting, bathing, eating, transferring, etc. Individuals who are financially eligible for Medicaid are not eligible for this program.

The use of funds will be shaped by seniors and their families according to what they feel best meets their unique needs.

COASEV is in the process of identifying folks who could be eligible and want to participate in this grant program. If you wish to be considered, please call 1-866-673-8376 and ask for Paula J. Fellows, Nursing Home Diversion Grant Manager.

This grant is in partnership with the Administration on Aging and Vermont’s Dept. of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living.

PEARLS

The Council on Aging for SE VT is entering its third year offering a program to help participants manage the unpleasant feelings that often accompany minor depression such as loneliness, sadness, frustration, irritability, anxiousness, or restlessness.

PEARLS (Program to Encourage Active Rewarding Lives for Seniors) is a no-cost, in-home, counseling program.   During 8 sessions over the course of 19 weeks, participants will explore creative solutions to meeting life’s challenges.

Program participants have said:

“It’s just nice to know there’s some place to get a start on overcoming the blues” and

“PEARLS made me feel I should do things, not just sit around.”

If you would like to learn more, please call Kelly Wicker, MA, PEARLS Counselor at:  1-802-885-2694 or toll free at:  1-866-673-8376.
