Oak 1

Physical charestics

This outcroping of rock stands on the line defined by four of the five monuments. There are no rock stacks that stand out from the usual random rocks that lie everywhere in vermont. This rock outcroping does appear to of been "helped" to obtain its present form (there are some very well worn marks that may of be from tools). The formation is oriented to face Mt. Okemo off on the horizon. The largest hardwood tree on the ridge overshadows the formation and has ninty degree upturned branches all around (one of which is directly over the formation).
stone chair stright on
This is a picture of the stone chair stright on. Notice the cutouts that fit the arms.
stone chair from north
This is a picture of the stone chair from the north. Notice GPS unit for scale.
stone chair from ledge side
This is a picture of the stone chair from the west. The formation is at the top of a twenty foot vertical ledge. From there the cliffs drop about another two hundred feet almost vertically to the valley floor below.
oak tree
This is a picture of the large oak tree standing beside the rock chair. It is the largest hardwood tree on the ridge. Actual mesurements were not taken but believe it is 4+ feet through. The limbs directly over the rock chair are bent at a ninty degree angle up as are all the main branches at approximatly the same distance from the trunk.
