Physical characteristics
Running along the line north of the oak rock
formation about 1/4 mile just above a stream crossing
is what appears to be a sholder rock. No inscriptions were
noted on it.
This stone sholder rock was very carefully built
into a well layed stone wall. The walls in this area are
above the normal in this area for quality of construction
and size.
This odd shaped stone was located in a field/marsh where there were
standing stones around. It is believed to be a Sacrifical stone. The center
channel has been carefully chiseled out in a near perfect circle. Two cross
hatched channels were cut on one side to intersect the circle and edge.
The stone is 2 1/2 feet by 3 feet in length and 4 inches thick, with
a rounded bottom. In the bottom is four round indentations that have been
excavated out. The top and bottom have been smoothed.
This petroglyph is located on the south eastern facing side of Elm
Hill in springfield , approximatly 1/2 mile from the sholder stone.
It has three small holes located in the crown area ( at hair line),
two larger holes in the eye area, and a open U shape at the mouth area
that is accentuation at the left side (at this point the mouth area may be
a representation of a peace pipe ?). Note the eyeglasses in the picture for
scale.

The Petroglyph is engraved into a small exposed piece of ledge ( or
large sunken bolder, Note that the standing stone directly in back of the
face is a modern addition to this feature).
