Monument 2
Physical charestics
This is the second of the five as yet
located monuments. It is situated on the side of a
ridge one quarter of a mile from the high point. It is
seven feet tall, five feet
wide at the base. It has two extensions from the base
that form puews that flank the monument.
This Monument is not in line with the other monuments
that we have located. There is one entry in one of the
old historys of Springfield that would see to indicate that
this Monument was built as a memorial to a woman in the
early 1800's. The construction is simular to monument 1
and monument 3 that may of influenced its construction.
This Monument is the only one that has extensions built
off the base. It has what appears to be two puew's constructed
that face each other. A person sitting on one of these would have
a view up and down the ridge.
The rock work is of good quality but may of been rearranged
by some of the local visitors. A short path connect this monument
to a logging road that follows the ridge line.
The Monument is built on a flat outcroping of bedrock. The
Rock in this area is very near the surface in most places.
