Information Systems/Technology Administrator

POSITION SUMMARY: The Information Systems/Technology Administrator will be responsible for maintaining the company’s hardware and software systems and assisting other associates with their information systems and technology needs, and proactively contributing to the executive committee new ways of using technology to increase revenues, reduce expenses, and create competitive advantages. This position must exercise sound judgment, has no direct reports, and acts independently on assigned tasks and performs duties with minimal supervision.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • The Technology and Information Systems Administrator manages and maintains information technology systems (including PC, server, storage, backup and network)
  • Provides IT operations functions for the organization’s standard hardware, software and voice/data network solutions
  • Responsible for the purchase, installation, and life-cycle maintenance of PCs, servers and LAN network connectivity equipment
  • As appropriate, provides escalated on-site support of hardware, software and network connectivity issues
  • Performs local administration and operations functions as appropriate in accordance with standards, policies and procedures
  • Responsible for the continual operation of systems and the protection of all data and systems corporal
  • Expected to be aware and maintain continuous up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices

Additional Skills & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all inventory maintenance and software license management
  • Responsible for procurement, installation and life-cycle maintenance of IT hardware and software (includes PCs, peripherals, servers, networking equipment, operating systems and other software)
  • Monitors security compliance in accordance with best practices, standards, policies and procedures
  • Responsible for configuration and change management, along with maintaining all documentation
  • Provides new team members with PC/account setup and orientation, including incumbent office expansions, etc. This includes relocation and/or installation of voice/data communications solutions, LAN and PC equipment
  • Provides technical support that requires an on-site presence (server, NAS, network or PC equipment failure), including data backup recovery. Performs complex software/hardware troubleshooting, patches and re-installations
  • Participates in the identification, development and communication of new technology standards and best practices as appropriate
  • Responsible for monitoring and testing data backups in offices to ensure that they are completed on a regular basis
  • Financial responsibility may include working within a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors, and assisting with budget development
  • Purchase equipment and supplies as provided for in budget
  • Work requires ability to lift 30 to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Work may require moderate physical exertion and/or physical strain
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and be accessible (on-call) during holidays and weekends
  • Ability to work under stress during peak workload periods
  • Performs a variety of miscellaneous computer technology work as assigned by supervisor
  • Provide support to the rest of the team, as needed, for the support and expansion of services to customers

Required Experience/Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study and 3-5 years minimum related experience, preferably with Windows systems administration in a manufacturing setting
  • Professional certifications as appropriate (MCSE, CCNA, and SQL preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience with standard software applications, including MS Office, Windows, and Active Directory
  • Familiarity with support and troubleshooting of personal computers
  • Must have a strong dedication to customer service
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Knowledge of current trends in the specific field

Network Engineer

Vermont Telephone Co., Inc. is looking for a strong Network Engineer/s to assist in support and continued development of next-generation network providing triple-play and wireless services, as well as maintain daily operations and evolution of our backbone network.

Job Location:

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Integration and support of Ericsson Mediaroom
  • Participate in Vermont Telephone Co., Inc. core network architecture development, including network evolution and vision, market expansions, new technologies roll out, MPLS, IPv6, product offering etc…
  • Contribute to Vermont Telephone Co., Inc. network security evolution and implementation
  • Support initial investigation and lab validation for new technologies
  • On-call as one of the escalation engineering resource
  • Onsite Deployment of Network equipment
  • Provide network and services support to internal clients as well as external high priority customers or escalations from first-level support. Estimated 5-10% Travel needed

Desirable Qualifications (any of the following):

  • + 3+ years as Network Engineer in a service provider or similar role
  • + Excellent understanding of OSPF and BGP, including daily operations of both protocols for large networks
  • + Strong understanding and practical experience with IP Multicast
  • + Network security experience, including firewall and IDS/IPS appliances/functions
  • + Understanding of IPTV, preferably Mediaroom and digital video compression
  • + Alcatel-Lucent IP Routing certified or equivalent experience
  • + Knowledge of mobile wireless networks; LTE – specifically, RF, MME, S/P GW, and HSS
  • + Background in Microsoft OS architecture and Active Directory
  • + Metaswitch or other softswitch/VoIP experience
  • + Linux shell and scripting

Technical Support Staff

Main Job Responsibilities:

  • Configuring customer equipment to connect to the Internet, for DSL, and FTTH Internet customers either wired or wireless
  • Performing accurate creation of new accounts and maintaining existing accounts, using company provided software tools
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting customer services logically, utilizing company provided software tools
  • Providing customers with product and service information to enhance sales and customer service
  • Answering customer calls respectfully and patiently. Troubleshooting connectivity issues for both DSL and dial-up, using a broad range of tools and experience
  • Completing trouble tickets. Setting up email account in various email clients. Familiarity with a broad range of setting and configurations in a variety of email clients
  • Testing, packaging and programming modems, routers and netbooks
  • Monitoring and responding to customer voicemails and emails

Other Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with computer hardware and/or electronics
  • Customer service background
  • Able to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines
  • Proficient in Internet-related applications, such as e-mail clients, FTP clients, and web browsers
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized
  • Experienced with hardware and software troubleshooting
  • Excellent communication (both oral and written), dependability, and flexibility are key

This job is part-time, averaging 15-18 hours per week after training.
